켄트대학교 Human Geography 학사과정 소개 및 장학금 안내

오늘은 SAY의 파트너 대학에서 새로이 학사 코스를 개설해 소식 전해드리려고 합니다.

바로 켄트대학의 지리학 과정 중 하나인데요. Kent는 ‘영국의 유럽 대학교’ 로 불리며, 브뤼셀, 파리, 아테네, 로마에서 공부가 가능한 대학입니다.

국제교류가 활발해 이 점을 중요시 여기는 학생들에게는 무척 좋은 대학입니다.

큰 규모는 아니지만 전통적인 칼리지 시스템을 고수하는 대학 중 하나이고요. 캠퍼스가 안전하기로 유명합니다. Social policy로는 영국 내 top 10을 기록하며, 범죄학, 드라마, 디자인, 영화, 심리등의 과목의 명성이 높습니다. 

켄트대학에 대한 자랑은 잠시 접어두고, 새로운 학사과정에 대해 본격적으로 알려드리겠습니다.

 

1. Human Geography – BSc (Hons) 코스 소개

 

1-1. overview

켄트의 인류지리학 과정은 전통적 지리학을 기초로하여, 현대적인 이슈를 설명하도록 설계된 코스입니다.
이 과정의 목표는 현대사회를 살아가는 젊은 지리학자들이 창의적으로 문제를 해결하도록 교육하는 것입니다.
이론 뿐 아니라 연구 능력, 실무 능력을 계발하도록 도울것입니다.

켄트의 새 프로그램은 지리학의 주요 테마인 사회/문화 지리학에 경제, 개발, 환경, 조경과 같은 이슈를 결합하였습니다.

켄트대학의 법, 사회학, 인류학, 생물다양성 보전 전문가들이 함께합니다.

인류지리학 과정을 배우면’왜 세상이 빨리 변화하는지, 이런 변화가 지역과 세계의 환경/문화에 어떤 영향을 미칠지’에 대해 이해할 수 있게 됩니다.

졸업 후에는 정부 기관, NGO, 사기업이나 교육 및 개발 분야로 나갈 수 있습니다. 

1-2. Year in Professional Practice

인류지리학 과정은 기본 3년으로 구성되어있으나, 필요에 따라 인턴쉽이 포함된 4년짜리 과정을 신청할 수 있습니다.

2학년에서 3학년 사이에, 인류지리학 코스와 관련있는 기관으로 work placement를 수행하게 됩니다.

하나 혹은 복수의 기관에서 최소 24주의 인턴쉽과정을 이수해야 합니다.

국내와 해외 모두 가능합니다. 이전의 학생들이 인턴쉽활동은 아래와 같습니다.

1-3. 현장학습(Field trips)

실제적인 경험을 통해 학습하는 ‘실습practical learning’은 이 코스에서 매우 중요한 부분입니다.

현장학습을 통해 현실의 상황을 배우고, 문제 해결 능력과 연구 능력을 기르게 됩니다.

학생 및 직원들과 동료애를 쌓을 수 있습니다. 첫 해에는 3일간의 숙박 일정을 포함한 교내 실습의 기회가 주어집니다.

3학년때에는 선호에 따라 Greek island에서 현장 연구의 경험을 쌓을 수 있는 기회도 있습니다. 

1-4. 모듈 소개(과목 소개)

아래의 과목은 예시이며, 변할 수 있습니다. 각 stage 별로 총 120 credits(학점)을 이수해야 합니다. 이 코스는 총 3개의 stage로 구성되어 있습니다. 

특이한 점은 ‘wild’ modules 라고 하여, 다른 과목/주제에 관심있는 학생은 해당 분야를 탐구하여 이수할 수 있도록 한다는 것입니다.

학생의 관심사에 따라 교육과정을 다양하게 계획할 수 있는 것이 이 코스의 장점입니다.

1-5. Teaching and assessment (교수 및 평가방법)

수업은 다음과 같은 형태로 진행됩니다. 강의, 세미나, 워크숍, 컴퓨터 실습, 튜토리얼, 롤플레잉, 실험실습, 필드워크 등입니다. 수업은 에세이뿐 아니라 레포트와 PT, 미니프로젝트, 시험으로 평가됩니다. 

 

2. 졸업 후 진로 안내

환경 및 국제 개발 NGO, 정부 부처, 지방 자치당국, 환경친화기업 등에 진출할 수 있습니다. 켄트대학과 네트워크를 맺고 있는 NGO와 컨설턴트 기업으로도 갈 수 있습니다. 아래와 같은 분야에서 졸업생들의 활약이 기대됩니다.
